Born and raised in rural Manitoba, Councillor Heather Karrouze came to Brandon in 1978 to attend Brandon University, earning both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees. In 1991, she left her position as a teacher and administrator in Toronto to return home to Brandon with her husband, Mo. They founded their small business here and have raised their family of four daughters in this wonderful community.  Today, the business continues to serve a loyal clientele, and their children and grandchildren call Brandon their home.

For more than 20 years, Heather has served as the Executive Director of the Counselling Centre for hope, healing & encouragement, while happily residing in beautiful Ward 1. She has maintained her connection to our university community, working over the years as a marker, tutor and most recently as a Sessional Instructor.

Heather has been an active member of the Brandon community for over 30 years. She served on the board of the Brandon Folk Music & Art Society for a number of years. She is a long-standing member of the Westman Multi Cultural Festival and recently joined the Community Wellness Collaborative. She also serves on several city council committees, including the Poverty Committee, Age Friendly Committee, Brandon General Museum & Archives, and on the Grants Review Committee.

Councillor Karrouze is proud to have the opportunity to further serve Brandon and Ward 1 as an active listener, a diligent learner, and an articulate advocate, pledging to serve with dedication and integrity.
