New Event Eligibility & Guidelines

This category is typically suitable for applicants looking to bring an existing event to Brandon that has not been held in the City for at least three consecutive calendar years or create a brand new event to be held in Brandon. To be eligible for an Accommodation Tax Grant, an event must generate overnight stays in Brandon.

In addition to the general guidelines found here (General Guidelines), the following apply to New Event funding applications.

  • To be eligible for Accommodation Tax funding under the category “New Event”, the event for which funding is being sought must have never been hosted in Brandon or be an event that has been held in Brandon in the past but has not been held in the City for at least three consecutive calendar years.
  • Events that have never been held in Brandon and generate overnight stays (limited to hotel/motel rooms, Brandon University, B&B rooms) may receive funding for a maximum of 3 consecutive years, with the approved funding paid out annually after the final report has been received and projected room nights realized.
  • Only events that align with Brandon First marketing strategies are eligible to apply for Accommodation Tax event hosting grants.  Personal events such as socials, weddings, and family celebrations are ineligible for Accommodation Tax Grant funding.  If you are in doubt as to eligibility for an event hosting grant, please contact Brandon First at 204.729.2156 or
