Since the installation of the initial columbarium in 1999, the City of Brandon's picturesque Columbarium Plaza has expanded over the years to now include seven separate units. The most recent complements to the plaza are the magnificent solid granite custom-designed walls that were installed at the end of 2011, adding 592 niches to the inventory. A frequent choice as families select a final resting place for their loved ones, the popularity of the columbaria is increasing exponentially each year.

Primary Goals of the Master Plan

1. To develop recommendations and a conceptual plan for Brandon Municipal Cemetery that enhances drainage in the area and accommodates cemetery expansion.

2. To set out a road map of phased improvements (and cost estimates) to guide the short and long term development of the cemetery.

As you can well imagine, in a cemetery where there are nearly 23,000 burials spanning more than 140 years... there are countless stories to be told. Let us share some of these incredible stories with you. Developed by our very own Innovation, Technology, and Communication Department - you can choose to take the state-of-the-art tour in two different ways: while sipping coffee and cuddled up in your favourite chair at home, OR; at the cemetery on a gorgeous Manitoba day, strolling through the trees and monuments with the interactive map directing you exactly where to go. Whether at home or on-site - you will be introduced to many unique & fascinating individuals that are included in this, the first of what we plan to be a series of tours.

The Cemetery is located on 18th Street South and is open to the public seven days a week from dawn to dusk. Information on plot locations and plot/columbarium niche sales is available from the staff at the Cemetery by calling 204-729-2150, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.

The Cemetery has five different sections available for the burial of your loved one:

• Regular
• Catholic
• Lawn (flat markers only)
• Cremation
• Columbarium

Cut flowers, wreaths, and floral offerings may be placed on graves but may be removed by the caretaker when their condition deters from the beauty of the Cemetery.

Brandon Municipal Cemetery Semi-Annual Clean-up

As is the case every April 15 & October 15, all items must be removed from every grave in the cemetery, including artificial flowers, ornaments, solar lights, plant hooks, stuffed animals, etc. Only headstones should remain.

Things to remember: flowers in a vase are permitted in all sections, NO glass of any kind is permitted in the cemetery at any time.
