In addition, to our “Learn Not to Burn” program, our Public Education Officer visits classrooms in the Brandon School Division delivering fire safety presentations. Often, Sparky is available to attend to the delight of the students.

Sparky carries on the tradition of having a Dalmatian dog work with firefighters. Originally, Dalmatians; a ratter breed, helped keep the stables free of rodents when the equipment was pulled by horses. Additionally, the dogs would run along-side the horses to the fire calls and help keep them calm while the Firefighters tackled the blaze. They were good companions for the members but as time has progressed, lack of work for the dogs, allergies, and public restrictions have made a fire hall an unfriendly home for live dogs.

Sparky is the mascot for Firefighters. A special dog with special skills, Sparky works closely with BFES to provide fire safety education in our classrooms. Sparky is also available to attend public functions. To book Sparky to attend your function, please fill out the request form here.
