Classroom Presentations

Our public education focus is our children and youth. Our goal is to instill fire safety into everyday life beginning with pre-school children. We continue throughout the elementary school years by providing age appropriate material that reviews previously introduced concepts and introducing new ones. There is curriculum provided to teachers via the Learn Not to Burn program and our Public Education Officer also makes visits to classrooms with prepared material during the school year.

Road Show

A Fire Safety Road Show is exactly that. Instead of having a group or class come to the Fire Hall for a tour, we take the SHOW ON THE ROAD. We arrive at schools with lots of trucks, Firefighter/Paramedics and fire safety information. Children get to hold a hose, have their blood pressure taken, and learn some fire safety. It’s fun for all age groups!

Rodeo

The Rodeo is a lot more demanding but just as much fun. Students compete against a clock in 4 or 5 different events. Events are structured around tasks that a Firefighter does on the job. Skills like hooking up fire hoses, spraying water and rescuing people are experienced by participants. Take tonnes of water, a group of enthusiastic youth, some Firefighter/Paramedics to teach the skills and the result is a community of soaking wet students having a ton of fun!

Fire Safety Trailer

A Fire Safety Trailer has been part of our toolbox to provide an interactive safe experience for students to learn first-hand about fire. Replaced with a new unit in 2011 with the sponsorship of Red River Mutual Insurance and Firefighters Burn Fund of MB, the modern trailer simulates how quickly a “home” fills with smoke when a fire occurs. The Public Safety Officer takes the mobile trailer to larger school or organization functions to create a more realistic experience for students to practice “get low and crawl to safety”.

Fire Hall Tours

Everyone is welcome to visit the #1 Fire Hall. Tours involve seeing the emergency trucks, how things operate within Brandon Fire & Emergency Services and the museum. Those who come for a tour go home with a better idea of how the fire and ambulance services operate, what some of our history is and the knowledge that a Firefighter/Paramedic is their friend and service provider in the community.

Call 729-2400 to arrange your group tour.
