Brandon Police Service Media Release for the Past 24 Hours.

Break and Enter

At 240 am on Sunday morning, a man from a residence in the 300 block of 13th St reported a male had entered their residence and attempted to assault his daughter.   The female victim was woken by a man standing in the doorway of her room. When she got out of bed, he pinned her on the bed and attempted to sexually assault her.  The father heard the commotion and yelled at the man who ran from the residence and was last seen running north on 13th St.  Officers attended and established a perimeter and the Police Service Dog Unit attempted a track but the suspect was not located.  The Forensic Identification Unit was called to attend the scene as well.   

The suspect is described as early 20’s in age, 5ft 8 in to 5 ft 10 in, Indigenous in appearance, husky to fat build, acne on his face and shoulders and a buzz cut hair cut that had overgrown.  The suspect was wearing only boxer shorts.

The incident is still under investigation.

Arson

On Saturday afternoon, a man was observed lighting bushes on fire in the 200 block of 18th St North. The caller extinguished the fire and then found the same man later near a business in the Corral Center.  Officers attended and the man was in possession of a lighter and was pilling wood up in a possible attempt to light another fire.  The man, a 47 year old Brandon resident, was arrested for Arson and Breach of an Undertaking condition to not possess a lighter.  He was lodged for remand.

Possession of a Weapon

A 52 year old man from Dauphin was arrested after he caused  a disturbance several times at a residence in the 700 block of 6th St.  The man attended the residence several times and banged on the door.  Officers located him and arrested him.  When he was searched, a stun gun was located in his pocket, which is a prohibited weapon.  The suspect was also breaching a release order condition to not possess weapons.  He was lodged for court.

Impaired Driving

At 0233 am on Sunday morning, a caller reported a truck had struck parked vehicles at 20th St and Ottawa Ave.  Officers attended and located the suspect vehicle with a male driver.  The driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested. He provided breath samples that exceeded the legal limit.  He was charged with Impaired Driving and Driver over 80 mg % and released for court in June.

Other Arrests

Two people were lodged for Breach of Peace.

A 36 year old Brandon man was arrested on a warrant from Portage La Prairie RCMP. He was lodged to appear in court on Sunday.

A 38 year old man was arrested on Saturday evening on several warrants from Thompson, Moose Lake, Chemawawin and Winnipeg as well as a new charge of Public Mischief.  The man was driving a vehicle stopped by police and lied about his name. Once his identity was confirmed, the warrants were discovered and executed. He was lodged for court.

A 22 year old man from Brandon was arrested on a warrant for Assault, Possesson of a weapons and Fail to attend court. He was released to appear in court in June.

At 0440 am on Sunday, officers attended a residence after the owner reported a window was broken.  Two people at the residence, a 17 year old male youth and an 18 year old woman were arrested on warrants. The male was lodged for court and the woman was released to appear in court in July.
