Assault/Threats

Yesterday afternoon a female attended BPS and reported that she had been assaulted two days prior by a male acquaintance known to her. During an argument between the victim and suspect, the male choked the female and threatened to kill her. A 51-year-old man from Brandon has been charged with assault and uttering threats, and will appear in Brandon Provincial court in May.

Impaired Driver

At 1:50 a.m. today, a single vehicle accident occurred in the 100 block of Aberdeen Avenue, when the operator drove the vehicle off road and into the ditch. The driver, a 21-year-old male from Winnipeg, was arrested as he was impaired by alcohol. The driver provided samples of breath resulting in readings that indicated that his blood alcohol concentration was beyond the legal limit. He was released to appear in Brandon Provincial Court in May.

Breach of Court Order

At 2:35 a.m. today, a 21-year-old male from Brandon while under the influence of alcohol, armed himself with a knife and held it to his throat while threatening to kill himself. Other occupants of the home called police, and the male was located outside the residence in the north end of the city when police arrived. He was taken into custody without incident, and will be assessed later in the day when sober to determine whether he requires further supports. He was charged with failing to comply with a release order by drinking, and will appear in Brandon Provincial Court in May.  

Other Arrests

  • A 44 year old male from Brandon was lodged in cells under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act after being medically cleared, as he was unable to care for himself. He will be released later today when sober.
  • At 8:30 p.m. yesterday, a 27 year old female from Brandon was removed from her home as she was intoxicated and fighting with other occupants of the home in the downtown area. She was lodged in cells for release later today when sober.
  • At 12:20 a.m. today, a male youth from Brandon was stopped in the downtown area while carrying an open container of alcohol. He was charged with breach of a release order by being out past his curfew. The youth was transported home to a parent who took custody of him, and will appear in Brandon Youth Court in April.
