Weapons Offences

Shortly after noon on Saturday, the resident of a downtown home reported two males had come to the door and threatened the caller with a machete. Police located one male who fled on foot. He was apprehended a short distance away. The 17-year-old Brandon male was found in possession of three replica handguns, bear spray and a small quantity of marihuana, packaged for selling. The male was charged with three counts of possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and two court order breaches. The second male was located back at the caller’s residence. The 19-year-old Elphinstone male, who initially lied about his identity, was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon (machete), uttering threats, public mischief and two court order violations. Both males were held in custody and will appear in court in the morning.

Assault (Domestic)

On Saturday afternoon, police were called to a domestic dispute in the 700 block of 7th Street. The female caller indicated that her common-law partner had choked her. A 46-year-old Brandon Male was arrested at the scene for domestic assault and released a short time later to appear in court in September. The victim did not require any medical attention as a result of the assault.

Impaired Driver

At approximately 10 pm, Saturday night, police received a complaint of an impaired driver who was attempting to get into another vehicle in the parking lot of a downtown hotel. Video surveillance from the hotel was viewed showing the diver operating a vehicle, which he then exited prior to the arrival of the police. The 43-year-old male from Shilo was arrested and returned to the Brandon Police Service where he provided breath samples of over twice the legal limit. He was charged with Impaired Driving, Driving Over .08 and Uttering threats after he threatened to harm the arresting officer’s family. The male will be released for court later in June when sober.
