On Sunday January 16, 2022 at 12:24 am, police responded to a report of a serious assault, which occurred in the 1000 block of Rosser Ave.

Investigation revealed that a 26-year-old male was confronted by several individuals and assaulted.  During the assault, he was struck with an unknown long red object.  The suspects fled, and the weapon was never recovered.

The victim was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, where he remains in recovery.

On January 16, shortly after the initial call, police located and arrested one suspect nearby.  The 41-year-old male was held in custody at Brandon Police Service while the investigation continued.  He was later released and will appear in court on March 28, 2022 on charges of Aggravated Assault, Assault with a Weapon, and Possess Weapon Dangerous.

Police continue to investigate and are seeking the public’s assistance regarding this assault.

If you were in the area of this assault between the 900 block of Rosser and the 100 block of 11th street and you believe you may have observed or witnessed something suspicious, please contact investigators.  The weapon may have been discarded; however, recent snow accumulation and snow removal has complicated search and recovery efforts.  If you locate a foreign long red object on your property, contact Major Crime Section Investigators by calling 204-729-2345 (File number 202262259) or email us through this link https://www.brandon.ca/police-contact/police-contact.
