Brandon Police Service Media Release for the Past 24 Hours.

Assault,

On Saturday afternoon, officers responded to a report of a fire in an apartment in the 400 block 13th St.  On arrival, a woman was located on the sidewalk outside the residence with injuries from an assault.  The victim had a broken ankle, swelling to the hands and face and cuts on her head.  She was transported to BRHC where she stated a woman had come to her residence earlier in the morning and assaulted her by punching her and hitting her with a pipe.  The victim attempted to leave and was assaulted a second time outside the residence.  The fire was caused by the suspect stacking items on the stove and leaving it on when she left.   The suspect, a 25 year old  from Griswold, was located later in the day and arrested. She was held in custody and will appear in court on Sunday morning on charges of Aggravated Assault Assault with a Weapon, Assault by Strangulation, Assault by Suffication and Uttering threats.

Assault Police Officer

On Saturday, a complainant reported a disturbance at a residence in the 200 block of Douglas St.   Officers attended and located a man who was very intoxicated and uncooperative in the residence.  The man assaulted one of the officers while they were attempting to take him into custody.  A 26 year old Brandon resident was released to appear in court in February on charges of Assaulting a Peace Officer and Resisting Arrest.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle

A 2006 Pontiac Torrent that was stolen in Brandon earlier last week was located by the RCMP abandoned in Rolling River.

Assault

A 22 year old Brandon man has been charged with Domestic Assault following an incident on Saturday evening.  The man was involved in an argument with his girlfriend during which he pushed her to the floor and kicked her.  Responding officers stopped him as he ran from the residence in the 700 block of 6th St.  He was arrested and released to appear in court in March.

Shoplifting

Around 11:00 pm on Saturday evening, a business in the 900 block of 18th St North reported a woman had left the store with over $300 in merchandise.  A description was provided and officers located the suspect nearby.  The stolen property was returned and the suspect was arrested.  A 32 year old woman from Sioux Valley was lodged until sober and will be released to appear in court in February.

Impaired Driving

At 12:45 am, a two vehicle collision at 34th St and Victoria Ave was reported to BPS.  Officers attended and a driver of one of the involved vehicle was restraining the driver of the other vehicle.  Police were advised that the female driver struck a vehicle from behind, then reversed into a second vehicle as she attempted to flee the scene.  The other driver noted she appeared impaired and prevented her from leaving.  The woman was arrested and transported to BPS where she provided samples over the legal limit.  An 18 year old Brandon resident was released on charges of Impaired Driving and Driver over 80 mg%. She will appear in court in February.
