Possession of a Weapon / Fail to Comply with Release Order

On Friday afternoon at approx. 3:50 PM police attended to an address in the 100 block of 16th St on an unrelated matter.  After completing the original purpose of their attendance, they advised the 33 year old tenant of the residence that they intended to search his residence. The male had been released from custody on July 7 2023, with a court granted Release Order, after having been charged with 12 firearm charges, 2 assault charges and 3 counts of failing to comply with release orders.  The current Release Order has numerous conditions which the accused male agreed to, prior to his release.  Within those conditions, is that he allow police to search his residence to ensure he is complying with the stipulations of the release.  It should be noted the order does limit the frequency of the police searches.  During the search the officers located a homemade club which had razor blades attached, a collapsible baton and a large knife which had been concealed in his furniture.  All of these items constitute a breach of his current Release Order.  The male was arrested and will appear for a bail hearing today charged with three counts of possession of a weapon as well as the charge of failing to comply with his release order.

Assault

At approx. 11:00 PM Friday night, officers were called to an address on Cornell Bay for a disturbance. Upon arrival they spoke with a female who indicated that she had been assaulted by her ex-partner, who had fled prior to police arrival.  Officers began a search of the area during which they observed male who matched the description provided, run through a nearby park.  The male then appeared to have hidden somewhere in the area.  With the use of the Police Service dog, the male was located hiding in some long grass ion the area.  The 36 year old male was arrested for assault and will be held for court later today.

Warrant Sweep

On Friday July 14, members of the Patrol Unit initiated efforts at locating and arresting people on outstanding warrants.  From 8 AM to approx. 3 PM, 9 accused, 7 males and 2 females were arrested on the strength of outstanding warrants. Those arrested ranged from 25 to 56 years of age.  One of the males was eligible for a release with a future court date, all others were held for court today.
