Domestic Assault

At approx. 9 AM on Thursday, police received two separate reports of a male and female engaged in a physical dispute in the 100 block of Kirkcaldy Drive.  Officers attended and found the 21-year-old male had grabbed the female by the hair and throat and forced her into a residence.   The male was arrested for domestic assault and has been released with a court date of September 3.

 

Impaired Driver

At approx. 7:55 PM Thursday evening officers were called to the area of the 000 block of Willowdale Cres for a female, who appeared pregnant, that was drinking from a large bottle of vodka.  Members located the female operating the vehicle in the back lane.  She displayed signs of impairment and was arrested for impaired driving.  The 26-year-old Brandon woman provided two samples of her breath, which resulted in readings above the legal limit.  She has been released form custody with a court date of June 18th

 

Domestic Assault / Breach of a Peace Bond / Resist Arrest

At 8:20 PM Thursday, members were called to a residence in the 3600 block of Centennial Blvd by a female indicating her boyfriend was freaking out and trashing the house.  Members attended and identified both the male and female and it was determined that although they are cohabitating, they are on a court order not to communicate with each other.  The 35-year-old female was arrested for breaching the order and was later released with a court date of September 3.  During interaction with officers, she disclosed that the 51-year-old male had assaulted her prior to police arrival.  Officers attempted to place the male under arrest but he resisted.  He was holding his dog and threatening the use of the dog against the officers.  Officers eventually deployed a Taser to assist in gaining control of the male.   He was safely taken into custody without injury.  The male was held overnight at the Police Service and has been released with a court date of September 3.  He is charged with domestic assault, resist arrest and breach of a peace bond.

 

Assault Police Officer / Mischief to Property / Resist Arrest

At approx. 11:00 PM members had taken a male who was under arrest to the Brandon Hospital for medical clearance prior to lodging him in the cells to detox.  As the two officers escorted the male out of the Emergency doors, he became resistive and fell to the ground.  The officers assisted the 38-year-old male to his feet and continued to walk him to the police cruiser parked nearby.  As the three got to the side of the police vehicle, the male lifted his feet and kicked himself off the side panel of the car.  The force of the kick sent the three men falling backward across the sidewalk toward the hospital building.  One o the officer who was holding onto the arrested male struck his head directly onto the concrete wall and was knocked unconscious. Security staff attended to assist as the other officer continued to struggle and eventually go the male into the police cruiser.  Emergency staff was called outside to aid the injured officer.  The male is being held at the Brandon Police Service and will be charged with assault peace officer, mischief to property, as the car sustained significant denting, and resist arrest.  The officer was treated at hospital and has been released. 

 

Possession of a Prohibited Weapon / Breach of Probation

At approx. 1:50 AM today, while patrolling an officers observed a male who appeared to be running from the officer while in possession of what appeared to be a canister of pepper spray.  The male ran through the 800 block of Vanhorne Ave into the back lane. The officer was able to apprehend the 17-year-old male in the back lane.  At the time of arrest, a large canister of bear spray was sticking out of his front pocket.  He was arrested for possession of a prohibited weapon as well as breach of probation, as he is on an order not to possess any weapons.  He was held overnight until a family member can travel to Brandon to allow for his release.  He will appear in court on July 14th.
