The Police Dog Service Unit (PSDU) is a family affair. As the patriarch of the team, Storm is surrounded by two of his pups, Blink and Zeus, who work with him at Brandon Police Service. This allows the organization the rare ability to claim its working dogs are all family members.
PSD STORM
Storm has been employed since 2017. Since joining the force, over 100 kilograms of illegal drugs have been located by Storm and seized off the streets of Brandon. This is a street value of over 20 million dollars. Storm is trained to locate and detect narcotics, including methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl, as well as others. Storm is also trained to track and apprehend suspects.
PSD BLINK
Blink has served since the spring of 2021. With BPS, she is trained to detect drugs and locate non-criminal individuals such as missing children, the elderly, or other vulnerable persons. Blink also has a second job as BPS has partnered with the Office of the Fire Commission (OFC) and their search and rescue team. Blink is one of only a handful of federally certified canines able to be deployed in the event of natural disasters or building collapses which may lead to people being trapped under rubble. Upon finding someone, Blink greets them with a few barks and, most likely, a couple of kisses.
PSD ZEUS
Following in his father's paw-steps, Zeus joined BPS in the fall of 2021. His skills include drug detection, tracking, and criminal apprehensions. Despite having only been in the field for a short time, Zeus has already apprehended numerous individuals, located stolen property, and helped officers recover a firearm used during a robbery.
The PSDU would like to thank the OFC, and former BPS K9 handler Jay Palmer for their ongoing support and training. Our PSDU would not exist as it does today without the unique bond that has been forged between the two organizations.
Finally, PSDU would like to express its gratitude to the citizens of Brandon. PSDU trains for a significant portion of each week, including sometimes tracking through residential properties. Our dogs undergo rigorous training to prepare them for work within the City of Brandon, but we would not be able to achieve this without the continued support of the community.
