Message from the Mayor

Mayor Rick Chrest

As we all know, the world is being challenged by a significant pandemic with respect to the COVID-19 virus.  As this is a medical emergency, the response in Manitoba is being directed by the Manitoba Chief Medical Officer of Health and associated provincial authorities.

Here in Brandon, your municipality is operating in close adherence to Provincial guidelines and advice.  That said, the City of Brandon has activated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and our Emergency Response Control Group is dealing with this emergency and meeting seven days a week.  The City of Brandon’s focus is heavily dedicated to procedures and practices to ensure that essential City services can continue throughout the pandemic response.  We are very fortunate to have an extremely professional and experienced Emergency Response Group who is leading this.  Myself and City Council will continue to be briefed and support our response team.

I would ask all citizens to keep informed through official credible sources, do your part through social distancing, exercise diligent handwashing and if you’re feeling ill, stay at home.

If you believe you have virus symptoms, consider accessing the new COVID-19 online screening tool at www.manitoba.ca/covid19 and/or contact Health Links – Info Santé at 1-888-315-9257.

I am extremely proud of the voluntary outpouring of leadership shown by organizations, businesses, and individuals who have postponed or cancelled many events and gatherings.  We know this is having a significant impact on many lives, and we will be mindful of these difficult circumstances as we move forward. We are a very caring and helpful community, and I am very confident we will all pitch in, look out for one another, and do our best to stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Mayor Rick Chrest
