City of Brandon Confirms One Positive COVID-19 Case in its Workforce

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon confirms that one employee of the corporation has tested positive for COVID-19. This represents the first positive case of COVID-19 identified within the City of Brandon’s workforce of approximately 625 full-time and part-time staff.

The employee works in the Sanitation Department but has had no contact with the general public since Tuesday, August 4th and last worked at the Eastview Landfill on Friday, August 7th. The employee became symptomatic on Saturday, August 8th and self-isolated in their home until obtaining a test on Monday, August 10th. The employee remained in self-isolation and was subsequently informed of a positive result today (Thursday, August 13th). The employee continues to self-isolate in their home through their recovery as per the guidance of Manitoba Public Health. The process of contact tracing in relation to this positive case has begun by Public Health officials.

The Eastview Landfill Administration Office has been closed until further notice to allow for a thorough sanitization of all impacted areas, and staff who may have worked with the employee in question last week are being asked to self-monitor for symptoms. The Eastview Landfill itself remains open as per its regular summer hours of operation and all public inquiries regarding access to the Eastview Landfill should be directed to 204-729-2281.

As it has since the outset of its response to this global pandemic, the City of Brandon adheres to a high level of COVID-19 prevention protocols in its workplaces and public spaces, including, but not limited to: mandatory handwashing/sanitizing upon entrance to all civic facilities, the installation of plexiglass barriers at all public service counters, the establishment of safe physical distancing protocols in its facilities, and extra cleaning of commonly-touched surfaces.
