City of Brandon Prohibiting Use of City Playground Structures & Outdoor Fitness Equipment

March 24, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In keeping with the Province of Manitoba’s directives for responsible social distancing and to limit the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus in the community, the City of Brandon wishes to advise that it will be prohibiting access to all City of Brandon-maintained playground structures and equipment until further notice. This restriction also applies to the various outdoor fitness equipment stations located in the community.

With information provided by the Manitoba School Boards Association indicating that the COVID-19 virus can remain viable on plastic or stainless steel surfaces for up to three days, City of Brandon administration feel it is in the community’s best interest to prohibit access to these structures as a preventative measure.

Signs will be posted on structures and equipment in the coming days and we would ask the entire community for cooperation in this matter. Please note that the City of Brandon does not sanitize such equipment.

The City of Brandon is NOT closing its public parks/greenspaces or off-leash dog parks at this time; however, in order to ensure such facilities can remain open and available for community use, we urge all those accessing these spaces to practice safe distancing protocols as laid out by the Province of Manitoba here: https://manitoba.ca/covid19/socialdistancing/index.html.
