Public Mischief, Fail to Comply with Undertaking

On Tuesday morning, staff at a department store in Brandon’s north end reported a female causing a disturbance in the cosmetics section. Officers attended and located the woman who was under the influence of a drug and had several needles in her possession. She gave several false names. When her identity was confirmed, she is on an undertaking with a condition to not attended that store. The woman , a 32 year old from Brandon, was arrested and released when sober to appear in court in August.

Possession of a Weapon

A 24 year old Brandon man was arrested on Tuesday morning for several weapons offences. The man was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by police in the 900 block of 1st St N. He was in possession of a pair of brass knuckles and had a large machete hidden in his pants. He was arrested for Possession of a weapon, breach of a release order, possession of a prohibited weapon, and possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order. The man appeared in court on Tuesday afternoon and was released on conditions including a 24 hour curfew.

Breach of Recognizance

A 25 year old Brandon man was arrested for breaching a recognizance order and a probation order after he communicated with a woman in Brandon’s north end. The woman called police when she encountered the man panhandling at the intersection of 18th St North and Kirkaldy Dr. He followed her to the Corral Center parking lot and would not leave her alone. Officers located him in the area and he was lodged to appear in court on Wednesday morning.

Police Operation – 300 block 15th St

Shortly before 6:00 pm on Tuesday, police received a complaint from a resident of the 300 block of 15th St. He reported seeing two males on a balcony arguing, one with a hand gun in his waistband and the other with a handgun in the back of his pants. Officers attended and secured the area. A second witness reported seeing the males and confirmed the presence of what was believed to be two handguns. Two men briefly exited the residence and when challenged by police, returned inside the apartment. A member of the Crisis Negotiation Unit was at the scene and used a loud hailer to make contact with the residents of the building. Two other apartments were safely evacuated and contact was made with the males inside the residence. After continued negotiation, two males exited the residence and were taken into custody. A third male was in the residence and contact was established with him, resulting in his leaving the residence a short time later. The two residents of the apartment were interviewed by members of the Major Crimes Unit and admitted to arguing and having a cap gun in their possession at the time. They consented to a search of the residence and the cap gun was recovered. Both men were released with out charges. The third man was arrested on a warrant and held at BPS due to intoxication. He was released on Wednesday morning for a court date in July.

Possession of a Weapon

Shortly before 6:00 am on Wednesday morning, a resident of the 1100 block of 20th St reported a man using a machete to smash a window in a vehicle parked in the back lane. Officers attended and located a male matching the description who had a machete. No damaged vehicles were located. The man, a 17 year old youth, was arrested for possession of a weapon and breach of probation. He will be released to appear in court in July.

Other Arrests

Three people were lodged under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act. One person was lodged for Breach of Peace.
