Shoplifter:

At 1:50 PM Friday afternoon, an employee from Walmart reported observing two suspects gathering a number of items in a cart and then transferring them into bags, prior to exiting the store without paying for the merchandise.  Police attended to the area and located a 47 year-old female in possession of approximately $315.00 of merchandise, which was returned to the store.  The female was also found to be the subject of a warrant for arrest for uttering a forged document, attempted fraud under $5000, and possession of property obtained by crime.  She was processed and subsequently released from custody to appear in court on August 2nd to answer to the charges detailed on the warrant as well as the new charge of theft under $5000.

 

Weapons Charge:

Just before 6:00 PM Friday, members responded to a report of a male chasing another male, while armed with a machete, in the 800 block Lorne Avenue. The suspect was located at the corner of 8th Street and Lorne Ave., still carrying the machete, and apprehended without incident.  The 34 year-old accused was arrested for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, processed, and released from custody on appropriate police imposed conditions.  He is to appear in court on August 4th to answer to the charge.

 

Arrest Warrant Executed:

A 24 year-old male was checked in the 0-00 block 7th Street just after 2:00 AM this morning and a records query revealed he was the subject of a warrant for arrest.  Charges detailed on the warrant include failing to attend court, possessing a controlled substance, possessing a weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon.  He was arrested on the strength of the warrant, and held in custody to appear before the court this morning.

 

Intimate Partner Assault:

At approx. 2:30  AM this morning, a 32 year-old male was arrested for assault after Police were called to a residence in the 600 block McDiarmid Drive.  The female victim disclosed being assaulted by the accused and had injuries consistent with the described assault; she did not require medical attention.  The accused was intoxicated and was held in Police custody to sober up, after which he will be released on appropriate police imposed conditions.  He is to appear in court on July 19th.

 

Theft Suspect Arrested:

During Friday evening, an employee from Sobey’s West made a report of a male suspect stealing approximately $100 of assorted merchandise from the store.  A copy of surveillance video was provided to Police and, from it, the suspect was identified.  At approx. 2:25 AM this morning, the 29 year-old suspect was located and arrested for theft under $5000.  He too was released from custody on appropriate police imposed conditions, and is scheduled to appear in court on July 25th.

 

Others:

Six other individuals were brought into custody to prevent a breach of the peace, or under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act, and held until they were sober and capable of caring for themselves.
