Theft and Use of Credit Card:

A 45 year-old male was arrested on Saturday evening for possessing a stolen credit card, after being identified by the card’s owner as being the suspect.  The accused had befriended the victim and then stole her purse, containing the card.  A member on patrol observed the accused and, upon arresting him, recovered the stolen credit card which had been used at several locations.  The matter is still under investigation and additional charges are relating to the use of the card are expected.

 

Arrest Warrant Executed and New Charges:

On Saturday evening, a member on patrol observed a male in the area of 10th Street and Rosser Avenue riding a bicycle.  The male was seen to ride through a red traffic signal, creating a hazardous situation for motorists and pedestrians, and the officer attempted to stop him; however, the cyclist attempted to flee.  The flight was short lived as he crashed his bike into a nearby dumpster.  Upon being located, he was found to be bound by a Release Order with curfew and residency conditions, which he was in breach of.  It was also determined that he was the subject of an arrest warrant for 13 separate criminal offences.  The 44 year-old suspect was arrested and held in custody to appear for court today.

 

Skipped Cab Fare Leads to Charges:

Just before 11:00 PM Saturday night, it was reported that 4 people had skipped on paying a cab fare in the 700 block 12th Street.  Members attended to the area and located the suspects.  It was found that 3 of the 4 were bound by various release orders that they were in breach of, and the fourth, a 20 year-old female, was intoxicated to the point she was unable to care for herself: she was lodged under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act.  A 24 year-old female, a 19 year-old female, and a 33 year-old male were all held in custody to appear for court today facing charges of failing to comply with release orders.

 

Impaired Driver:

At approximately 2:20 AM Sunday morning, a vehicle stop in the 1000 block Princess Avenue resulted in the arrest of the 44 year-old male driver for impaired driving.  Subsequent breath tests showed a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit.  He was held in custody until sober and is scheduled to appear in court on October 21st to answer to the charges.

 

Weapon Charge:

Just after 3:00 AM Sunday morning, a caller reported a male with a flashlight trying to break into a residence in the 1100 block 20th Street.  Members attended and located a 32 year-old male from Virden in the area.  He was found to be in possession of a can of bear spray and was arrested for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.  He was released on appropriate police imposed conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on October 21st on this matter.  It was determined that no break in had occurred.

 

Others:

Several other arrests related to intoxication, which resulted in no charges but the subjects being held until sober.
