Brandon Police Service Media Release for the Past 24 Hours.

Assault with a Weapon – Bear Spray:

At approximately 6:00 P.M. Sunday evening, Police responded to the 100 Block of 13th Street for a disturbance involving two individuals. The investigation determined that the dispute between the two escalated to the point where one of the individuals used Bear Spray to assault the other. A 17-year-old male suspect was arrested for Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon. He was transported to the Police Service and later released from custody to attend Court in July. The 19-year-old male victim was not seriously injured and declined medical attention.

 

Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order:

On April 17th, BPS members responded to the area of Park Avenue East and 17th Street East after receiving a report of a male shooting a rifle out of a truck. A male suspect was located and a high-powered pellet gun seized. It was learned that the suspect was shooting at gophers. A Police records check of the suspect determined that he is bound by a Prohibition Order to not possess any firearms. On Sunday evening, the 49-year-old man from Brandon was arrested for Possession of a Firearm Contrary to a Prohibition Order. He is scheduled to appear in Court in July.

 

Flight from Police:

At approximately 2:15 A.M. Monday morning, Police observed a vehicle at 26th Street and Victoria Avenue with no licence plates. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle accelerated westbound on Victoria Avenue, refusing to pull over. The vehicle passed 34th Street and reached speeds of 134 km/h. The vehicle continued northbound on Governor’s Road turning onto Centennial Blvd and continued eastbound on Centennial Blvd reaching speeds of 100 km/h before finally coming to a stop at 34th Street. The driver of the vehicle and only occupant was taken into Police custody without further incident. A search of the vehicle recovered 10 grams of methamphetamine, $880 cash and a large hunting style knife. The 25-year-old man from Rivers Manitoba was arrested for Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight While Pursued by Police, Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Proceeds of Crime and Possession of a Weapon. The man has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Court in July.

 

Arrest Warrant Executed:

On Sunday afternoon, Police stopped a vehicle in the parking lot of a business on Middleton Avenue. A 29-year-old male occupant of the vehicle was found to have an outstanding Endorsed Warrant of Arrest for Assault. He was arrested and released to attend Court in June.   

 

Other Arrests: 

  • One individual was arrested for Breach of Peace.
  • One individual was detained under the Intoxicated Person Detention Act.
