Brandon Police Service Media Release for the Past 24 Hours.

 

 

Possession of Contraband Tobacco/Possession of Proceeds of Crime/Possession of Cannabis for Distribution

 

 

On Friday afternoon, members of the Major Crimes Section and Patrol Section assisted by members of Manitoba Finance Taxation Special Investigations Unit arrested five men at a residence west of Brandon in the RM of Whitehead.  An ongoing investigation involving the transportation and sale of illegal cigarettes led to the residence where two trucks, an SUV and three cargo trailers were seized along with approximately 680,000 cigarettes, 20.5 kilos of illicit marihuana and more the $20,000 cash.  The following subjects are charged and were released on undertakings to appear in court in June and July…..

A 43 year old Brandon man charged with Possession of Contraband Tobacco

 

A 33 year old man from Gilbert Plains charged with Possession of Contraband Tobacco and Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Distribution

A 52 year old man from the RM of Whitehead charged with Possession of Contraband Tobacco.

 

 

Domestic Assault

 

On Friday afternoon, officers attended to a residence in the 400 block of Lorne Ave after a man reported he was having a dispute with his girlfriend.  The man stated he was slapped by the woman.  The woman also revealed she was assaulted by the man. A 20 year old man and a 19 year old woman, both from Brandon, were arrested for assault and will appear in court in June.

 

 

Assault

 

A 39 year old Brandon man was arrested on Friday evening and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm.  A woman reported her roommate tried to break into her room while armed with a knife.  The man left the residence before police arrived but was located nearby.  The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries from the assault.  The accused was held until sober and will be released to appear in court in June.

 

 

Impaired Driving

 

At 7:47 pm, a witness reported an erratic driver on 18th Street South.  The vehicle was located by an officer and stopped in the 400 block of 17th St.  The female driver displayed signs of intoxication and was arrested.  She provided samples of her breath at the police service station that were in excess of the legal limit.  The driver, a 25 year old woman from Pilot Mound, is charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Over 80 mg% and was issued offence notices for driving without a licence and operating an unregistered vehicle.  She will appear in court in May.

 

 

At 10:11 pm an officer was driving through the traffic circle at 34th St and Richmond Ave when his police cruiser was nearly struck by a truck.  The truck was stopped nearby and the driver showed signs of impairment by alcohol.  The driver, a 38 year old Brandon resident, was arrested and transported to the police service where he provided samples of his breath that were over 3 times the legal limit.  He was charged with Impaired Driving and Drive over 80 mg% and released to appear in court in May.

 

 

Domestic Assault

 

A 38 year old woman from Brandon was arrested for Assault on Friday evening shortly after 10:00 pm.  Several reports were received by police of a man and woman fighting in the 100 block of 10th St.  Officers attended and located the two people.  The man had injuries to his face and the woman was arrested. She was lodged and will be released to appear in court in May.

 

 

Other Arrests

 

Four people were lodged under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act or for Breach of Peace.

 

One man was arrested for Breaching an undertaking order and was released to appear in court in June.
