Brandon Police Service Media Release for the Past 24 Hours.

 

Impaired Driving Arrests:

On April 17th at approximately 5:10 A.M., Police stopped a vehicle in the 100 Block of 1st Street. The male driver displayed signs of impairment and was arrested for Impaired Driving. He was transported to the Police Service where he refused to provide samples of his breath. The 28-year-old man from Melita Manitoba was subsequently arrested for Driving While Ability Impaired and Refuse to Provide Breath Sample with Demand. The man has been released from Police custody and is scheduled to appear in Court in July.   

On April 17th at approximately 9:20 A.M., BPS received two reports of a possible impaired driver in the area of the 800 Block Pacific Avenue. Officers attended, located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The male driver displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested. He was transported to the Police Service where breath samples obtained exceeded the legal limit. The 52-year-old man from Brandon was arrested for Driving While Ability Impaired and Drive with More than 80 milligrams of Alcohol in Blood. The man has been released from Police custody and is scheduled to appear in Court in July.  

  

Drug Search Warrant Executed:

 On Friday evening, members of the Brandon Police Service Major Crime Section and Patrol Unit executed a search warrant under the authority of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a residence on Juniper Bay. The search of the residence recovered six ounces of cocaine and $5000.00 cash. A 33-year-old man from Brandon, 31-year-old female from Brandon and 30-year-old man from Gambler First Nation have been arrested for Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Proceeds of Crime. All three have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Court in July. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $12,000.

 

Robbery:

On Friday at approximately 4:00 P.M., Police responded to a report of a Robbery at a business in the East End of the city. The male suspect fled prior to Police arrival and a search of the area to locate the suspect met with negative results. Investigation discovered that the lone male suspect entered the business, brandished a knife and demanded cash. The employee complied with the demand and the suspect left the business. The employee was not physically harmed in the incident. The suspect is described as being on older Caucasian male with heavyset build, wearing a hat, sunglasses and having his face covered. Police investigation continues.

 

Assault, Resist Arrest:

At approximately 2:30 this morning, Police responded to a residence in the East End of the city for a disturbance. A male and female were located within the residence and are involved in a domestic relationship. The female victim had bruising to her face and neck and investigation determined the injuries to be consistent with an assault. The highly intoxicated male suspect resisted arrest and had to be subdued with a Taser. He was taken into custody and transported to the Brandon Police Service. The female victim did not require medical attention for the injuries. The 45-year-old male was arrested for Domestic Assault and Resist Arrest. He is scheduled for a court appearance when sober.

 

Uttering Threats:

On Friday evening, a male reported to Police having a dispute with a female that he was previously involved in a domestic relationship with. During the verbal argument, the female suspect threatened to kill the male. The 31-year-old female suspect was located and arrested for Uttering Threats.  She was released from Police custody and is scheduled to appear in Court in July.

 

Arrest Warrant Executed:

A 19-year-old man from Brandon was arrested on Friday afternoon after Police discovered he had an outstanding Warrant of Arrest for Breach of Probation. The man was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Court in July.

 

Other Arrests:

  • A 30-year-old man was detained under the Intoxicated Person Detention Act.
  • A 36-year-old man was arrested for Breach of the Peace.
