BCC – Assault – Inmates arrested

On June 24, 2022, police received information of assaults towards an inmate by two other inmates over the course of approximately two months.

Investigation revealed that a 24-year-old male and a 28-year-old male used weapons of opportunity to assault the 28-year-old male victim.

The suspects used bed sheets to tie the victim while they assaulted him using both physical force and with objects including chairs, slippers, pencils and towels.  The suspects also choked the victim by using rear chokeholds, by placing garbage bags on his head and by using water-boarding techniques.

The suspects threatened the victim with death and serious injury should he report the abuse.

The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assaults.

On June 28, 2022, police arrested the suspects.  They remain in custody at Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear in court today on charges of Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Assault by Choking, Criminal Harassment, and Uttering Threats.

 

Assault and Party to the Offence – Assault

On May 19, 2022, police received a report of an assault, which occurred that day at approximately 3:30 pm in the area of the 500 block of Louise Ave. 

Investigation into the assault revealed that it happened between students just after school.  While a 13-year-old male assaulted another 13-year-old male, a 13-year-old female made a video of the assault, which was later circulated on social media.  The investigation also revealed that the female pointed out the victim to the other suspect.

On June 7, 2022, the 13-year-old male suspect attended Brandon Police Service with a parent.  He was arrested and later released to appear in court on November 8, 2022 on a charge of Assault.

On June 28, 2022, police arrested the 13-year-old female.  She was later released to appear in court on November 8, 2022 on a charge of Party to the Offence – Assault.

 

Theft of Copper Wire

On June 28, 2022, police responded to a report of approximately $10,000 worth of copper wire from a business in the 100 block of Industrial Drive.  Investigation revealed that the suspects gained entry to the compound overnight by using a ladder to scale the fence.

Break and Enter to Business

On June 28, 2022, police responded to a report of a break and enter to a business storage trailer in the 1500 block of Braecrest Drive. Investigation revealed that suspects entered the trailer overnight and stole a variety of power tools including an assorted set of Dewalt power tools, and a Migid Miter saw

Theft Under $5000

On June 28, 2022 at approximately 4:00 pm, police responded to a report of a male who stole merchandise from a business in the 800 block of 18th street.  Police located and arrested the male a short distance away.  He was also wanted on outstanding charges of Fail to Attend Court.  He was later released and will appear in court on August 29, 2022.

 

Arrest Warrant

On June 28, 2022, police attended to a report of a fight at a residence.  One of the individuals involved was found to be the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant.  The 28-year-old male was arrested and later released to appear in court on August 22, 2022 on a charge of Fail to Attend Court. 

 

Fail to Comply with Release Order

On June 28, 2022, shortly after 3:00 am police located a 28-year-old male pedestrian who was known to be the subject of a court ordered curfew.  He was arrested and lodged at Brandon Police Service to appear in court today on a charge of Fail to Comply with Release Order.

 

Theft Under $5000

On May 3, 2022, police received a report of the theft of merchandise from a business in the 3500 block of Victoria Ave.  Security footage of the theft assisted police in identifying one of the suspects.  On June 29, 2022, police located and arrested the 16-year-old female.  She was later released to appear in court on August 23, 2022 on a charge of Theft Under $5000.
