Garage Break and Enter

On Saturday afternoon, a homeowner in the Green Acres area reported that his garage had been broken into sometime Friday evening, between 5:00 p.m. and midnight. The suspect(s) obtained the garage door opener from the homeowner’s vehicle and used it to gain entry to the garage. Stolen were two mountain bikes and a nailer.

Possess Stolen Property

At 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, a male known to police whom officers wished to speak in relation to an unrelated incident a week earlier, was observed in the downtown area riding a bicycle. When police attempted to stop the male to speak to him, he dropped the bike and fled on foot. The officer remained with the bicycle, which was found to be stolen, but is registered with Brandon Police Service 529 Garage program. Approximately one and a half hours later, the male was observed on foot in the area of the 700 block of 7th Street. He again fled from officers, and was eventually located hiding in a yard in the 400 block of 4th Street. He was under the influence and held in BPS cells for release once sober. A 22 year old Brandon male faces charges of possession of stolen property, and mischief to property in relation to this investigation.  He appears in Brandon Provincial Court in June. 

Weapon Possession

At 7:45 p.m. Saturday, police attended to the area of 10th Street and VanHorne Avenue where a male was reported to be in possession of a knife, while screaming at people in the area. On arrival, the 36-year-old male from Brandon was found to in possession of a pipe and a hammer. Police took the male into custody after a physical struggle, and lodged him in BPS cells for a remand hearing before a Justice today. The suspect faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resist arrest, and failing to comply with a previous release order.

Drug Possession

At 9:10 p.m. Saturday, police stopped a vehicle operated by a 29-year-old male from Calgary on the north service road area of the Trans Canada Highway. Officers observed controlled substances in plain view during the traffic stop and arrested the male. When searched incidental to arrest, the male was found to have in his possession a package containing a large amount of fentanyl. The male was held in BPS cells overnight, and will appear before a Justice today. He faces charges of trafficking in fentanyl, and possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.

Impaired Driver

At 04:25 a.m. today, police conducted a vehicle stop in the area of Parkdale Drive and Durum Drive. Police took the 23-year-old female from Brandon driving the vehicle into custody, as she showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol. At the BPS office, the female provided samples of her breath, which showed she was operating a motor vehicle while in excess of the legal limit of alcohol allowed. After being processed she was released from custody, and will appear in court in July. She is charged with impaired driving and driving over the legal limit of 80 mg%.
