Weapon

At approximately 9:00 a.m. yesterday, a resident in the south end of the city reported two males going from yard to yard, trespassing on private residential property and appearing to check homes and garages. Police located two males in the area matching the description provided by the caller. A 43-year-old male from Portage La Prairie was arrested on an outstanding warrant of arrest held by another police agency. When searched subsequent to arrest, a large knife with a homemade wrapped handle was found on this male. He has been released from custody to appear in Brandon Provincial Court in July, and faces a single charge of carrying a concealed weapon. The other male was released without charge.

Domestic Assault

At 5:30 p.m. yesterday, police attended a domestic disturbance in the west end of the city. A 41 year old Brandon woman on scene was intoxicated and had assaulted her boyfriend, who had injuries consistent with the allegation. The female was later released from custody and will appear in Brandon Provincial Court in July, and faces one charge of assault.

Other Arrests

  • At 10:00 p.m. yesterday, police conducted a traffic stop in the university area. A 23-year-old male from Brandon was found to be on conditions to have no communication with the female in the vehicle. He was released on a single charge of breach of undertaking, and will appear in court in June. The female in the vehicle was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear for the identification of Criminals Act. She was processed at BPS, and will appear in court in June.
  • At 11:10 p.m. yesterday, an intoxicated male was taken into custody after several callers reported he was trespassing in yards in the area, and yelling at homeowners and passersby. He was located sitting on a bench in the 700 block of 10th Street, and was lodged in BPS cells without charge. He will be released later in the day when sober.
  • At 2:35 a.m. today, a resident in the university area reported an unknown male attempting to insert a key into the front door and gain entry. Police attended and took a 19 year old male from Dauphin into custody. The male was intoxicated to the point where he was not aware that he was not at his own home. He was lodged in BPS cells without charge, for release later today once sober
