Domestic Assault

At 4:50 p.m. Friday, a female from Brandon reported to police that her former boyfriend assaulted her, when he slapped her and dragged her across the room while the two of them were arguing. The 46 year old male from Brandon was taken into custody and held in BPS cells overnight, and will appear before a Justice this morning.

Transportation of Unstamped Tobacco

At 9:10 p.m. Friday, officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Highland Avenue. A 55-year-old male from Calgary was arrested as a result of the investigation which followed the traffic stop. He was found to be in possession of unstamped tobacco and cash. The suspect was held in BPS cells overnight and will appear before a Justice this morning. He is facing charges of unlawful transportation of unstamped tobacco, possession of the proceeds of crime, and possession of over 25 units of unmarked tobacco.

Impaired Driver

At 12:30 a.m. today, police stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Prairie Crescent. The 51-year-old female operator from Brandon was arrested as she was under the influence of alcohol. She was transported to BPS where samples of her breath were provided. Due to the extraordinarily high readings, police had medical professionals process the female for her own safety. Once the female was medically cleared, she was lodged in BPS cells for release later today. The accused will appear in court this week, charged with impaired driving, and driving a motor vehicle over the legal limit of 80 mg%

Other Arrests

  • At 10:00 a.m. Friday, a male was checked on the #1 Hwy after it appeared that he was changing clothes in a public area.  The 35-year-old male from Portage La Prairie was found to be the subject of outstanding warrants of arrest held by another agency. When officers attempted to arrest the male, he fled on foot. Police pursued the male for about two blocks and arrested him. He was held in custody and will appear before a Justice this morning on the other agencies charges, as well as additional charges laid by BPS for Resist Arrest and Public Mischief for providing a false name when police first approached him.
  • At 1:40 p.m. Friday, 34-year-old male from Brandon was taken into custody for causing a disturbance in the area of 1St Street and McTavish. He was under the influence of meth and expressing suicidal ideation. He was held in custody overnight in BPS cells and will speak to a mental health professional in the morning when sober, prior to release.
  • At 7:45 p.m. Friday, a 19-year-old female from rural Brandon was taken into custody for being at a business in the 1500 block of 18th Street, which she is currently on court imposed conditions to not attend. She was released to appear in court in December, and faces a single charge of failure to comply with an undertaking.
  • At 9:25 p.m. yesterday, police attended a disturbance at a residence in the 800 block of 9th Street. A 37-year-old male from Brandon was high on meth and fighting other people in the home. Police removed the male and lodged him in BPS cells for release later today once sober.
  • At 2:00 a.m., police attended to a business in the 3100 block of Victoria Avenue where an intoxicated 21-year-old male from Brandon was causing a disturbance, and problems for security and other persons on scene. The suspect was lodged in BPS cells overnight and will be released without charge later today once sober.
