Update - Firearm Charges

Further investigation into the report of a firearm incident, which occurred on October 21, 2021, has led police to locate and arrest a 21-year-old male on November 1, 2021.  He was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court today on charges of Use Firearm, Pointing Firearm, Utter Threats, Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, and Possession Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Fail to Comply with Probation.

Police Search Residence following Firearm Complaint

On October 21, 2021, shortly after 3:00 pm, police responded to a report of an individual pointing a handgun towards other people, from a residence on Confederation Bay. 

Police contained the residence in an effort to have the occupants exit safely, prior to conducting a search of the residence.  Traffic and pedestrian traffic in the area was re-routed as a precaution until police were satisfied that all the residents had exited the residence just prior to 4:30 pm. 

No handgun was located following the search of the home, and no charges were laid. 

 

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

On November 1, 2021, police responded to a report of an MVA in the 400 block of 10th street, which occurred at approximately 9:30 pm. 

The suspect vehicle rear-ended the complainant’s vehicle causing extensive damage while the two vehicles were in a drive-thru.  The suspect then exited their vehicle, approached the complainant’s vehicle and kicked the side view mirror off.  The suspect then drove over the curbing and left the scene.

Investigation led police to locate and arrest the 34-year-old male suspect and the suspect vehicle.  He was later released to appear in court on January 1, 2022 on charges of Mischief Under, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Fail to Stop at the Scene of Accident.

 

Bitcoin Fraud

On November 1, 2021, police responded to a report of a fraud.  The fraudsters contacted the complainant by phone and claimed to represent CBSA.  They convinced the victim to send $4,500 via Bitcoin to avoid drug charges as a package intercepted by them contains illegal substances.  Bitcoin is an untraceable format in which Fraudsters can receive money from their intended victim.  CBSA and other law enforcement will never ask you for money.  If you have any doubt after receiving one of these calls, please contact your local police with any questions.

 

Theft Under $5000

On November 1, 2021, police responded to a report of a theft of merchandise from a business in the 100 block of Victoria Ave E. shortly before noon.  Police located and arrested the suspect nearby who was still in possession of the stolen merchandise.  The 29-year-old male was lodged at Brandon Police Service due to his intoxication and will be released once sober to appear in court on charges of Theft Under $5000.

 

Break and Enter to Business

On November 1, 2021, police responded to a report of a break and enter to a business in the 1500 block of 1st street.  Suspects initially gained access to a vacant adjacent business, before forcing their way inside overnight.  Stolen was an assortment of cigarettes, candy and gift cards.

On November 1, 2021, police responded to a report of a break and enter to a business in the 1500 block of Russell St. Suspects gained entry overnight and stole wiring from a storage area.

 

Break and Enter to Residence

On November 1, 2021, police responded to a report of a break and enter to a residence in the 100 block of 2nd street.  Suspects gained entry overnight by removing a window to a porch.  It is unknown if anything was stolen.

 

Break and Enter to Residential Garage

On November 1, 2021, police responded to a report of a break and enter to a residential garage in the 900 block of 13th street.  Suspects gained entry overnight through the walk in door and stole a variety of items that were later located in some nearby grass.

Assault

On November 1, 2021, police received a report of an assault, which occurred in a residence on October 31, 2021.  Investigation revealed that the 45-year-old male suspect assaulted two family members inside a residence.  Neither victim required medical attention.  The suspect attended to Brandon Police Service on his own and was arrested.  He was later released to appear in court December 30, 2021 on two charges of Assault.
