Why Are You Running for City Council?

Born and raised in rural Manitoba, I first came to Brandon in 1978 to attend Brandon University, where I earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education.  In 1991, I left my position as a teacher and administrator in Toronto to return home to Brandon with my husband, Mo, knowing that we would found our small business here, as well as raise our family in this wonderful community.  Today, the business continues to serve a loyal clientele, and our children and grandchildren call Brandon their home.

For more than 20 years, I have served as the Executive Director of the Counselling Centre for hope, healing & encouragement, while happily residing in beautiful Ward 1 (Assiniboine). I have maintained my connection to our University community, working over the years as a marker, tutor and most recently as a Sessional Instructor.  I have been an active member of the Brandon community for over 30 years.  I have served on the board of the Brandon Folk Music & Art Society and continue on the board of the Westman Multi Cultural Festival.  Since 1997, I have been the local coordinator of the nationally acclaimed Huron Carole Benefit Concert.

I welcome the opportunity to further serve Brandon and Ward 1 as an active listener, a diligent learner and an articulate advocate.  I am commited to working with the City, doing my best to ensure that the concerns of Ward 1 residents are heard. I pledge to serve with dedication and integrity.
