Lighthouse After School Program

The City of Brandon is currently seeking interested citizens in volunteering to assist in various capacities at the Lighthouses After School Program. The program is a partnership with the Department of Justice and an initiative on Neighbourhoods Alive which provides youth a positive environment to get involved in pro-social, recreational and crime prevention activities. The Lighthouses After School Program runs from September to March at various schools throughout Brandon.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the supervision and organization of numerous sporting events
  • Assist in the supervision and organization of numerous physical activities
  • Assist in the supervision and organization of crime prevention activities and procedures
  • Assist in the supervision and organization of games
  • Any other assistance in supervision or organization that is required

 

Experience and Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiastic about working with youth
  • Energetic and good patience in dealing with youth
  • Planning, organizing and project coordination skills
  • Independent and able to work with limited supervision
  • Able to follow safety precautions when on site
  • Able to follow direction and policies at all times

 

Volunteer Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Required Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Must have own method of transportation
  • Must be able to volunteer three to five hours per week
  • Must have Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status
  • Report to all scheduled shifts and meetings in a punctual and professional manner
  • Notify the Coordinator in advance if unable to attend shift

 

Supervision

  • All volunteers will be responsible to the City of Brandon Community Services Department
  • Some supervision may be provided by City of Brandon staff
  • Volunteers may be asked to cooperate in an annual review and assessment of the Volunteer Development Program and their overall experience volunteering with the City of Brandon
