2012 Tax Bills Now in the Mail
The City of Brandon would like to advise the public that 2012 tax bills are being mailed out today, May 22nd, 2012.
When you receive your tax bill, please take a few moments to read the accompanying leaflets for more information on the City of Brandon’s 2012 budget and the property tax mill rate. If you own any property in the City of Brandon and do not receive a tax bill by May 31st, 2012, please contact the Property Tax Department at 729-2228.
Taxes are due by end of business day (5 p.m.) on Friday, June 29th, 2012. Owners are responsible for payment of taxes, whether or not a bill is received.
City Hall office hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If you are mailing your payment, please allow sufficient mailing time in order to meet the June 29th deadline. Those paying by the method of Internet banking should also take note of the deadline.
A discount of 0.5% is allowed on all 2012 property tax payments received on or before May 31st, 2012.
Penalties will accrue commencing July 1st, 2012, at a rate of 1.25% per month, as per City of Brandon By-law No.6658.
If you wish to avoid the long line ups nearing the June 29th payment deadline, the City of Brandon will permit you to leave a post-dated cheque, along with your tax stub, at the Treasury Department on the main floor of City Hall and the payment will be processed at month end. Receipts are not generally mailed out, as your cancelled cheque can serve as a receipt. However, if you require a receipt, please be sure to clearly indicate in writing on your stub “Receipt Required”.
As a further service to taxpayers, annual taxes may also be paid monthly by automatic bank withdrawal using the City of Brandon’s Tax Installment Plan (TIP). Discounts and penalties for tax payment do not apply when the TIP program is used. The application deadline in order to be enrolled in the TIP program is June 15th, 2012.
More information on taxes and assessment is available at by visiting the City Taxes & Assessment page.
