The Manitoba Provincial Enhanced 911 (MP911) system began operating out of the City of Brandon Fire Department on September 16, 1996. The City of Brandon and Manitoba Telecom Services implemented enhanced 911 service for a trial period ending December 31, 1996.

Regional Municipalities, Towns and First Nations Communities contract 911 service to MP911. They fund the service through property taxes and other methods such as call-answer levies.
